The Christian worldview, as described in the chapter and assigned readings in this course are likened to that of eyeglass lenses to which a Christian views the world. From such a perspective, such a view greatly influences one’s behavior and choices made in his or her daily life. This is the very core of wisdom that connects the comprehensive understanding with application of such knowledge (DiVincenzo, A. (Ed.) (2014)). This paper will relate the fundamental elements of a Christian worldview to the knowledge and understanding of the gospel essentials that involve active participation and the practice of acquiring knowledge which ideally would lead to positive results in one’s life. God According to our text, there are certain beliefs that are not negotiable within the Christian worldview. The teaching of these beliefs are essential to what holds the Christian worldview in tact. Of the first-order points of doctrine included is a belief in the Trinity (DiVincenzo, 2014). The Trinity is described as one God existing in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (DiVincenzo, 2014). Additionally, Scripture interpreted from Genesis 1, New American Standard Bible Version, teaches that the God of our Bible, in His sovereign power created all that exists in the universe. However, there are multiple definitions of Autism spectrum disorder and autism. The two most accepted definitions are those outlined in IDEA and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, The IDEA definition of ASD and Autism has these disorders characterized by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and academic performance, that can be observed prior to the child turning three years of age. Those diagnosed with Autism or ASD are also said to display problem behavior such as self-injurious behavior or aggression, a need for environmental predictability, symptoms of sensory and movement disorders, as well as, symptoms of Savant Syndrome. Savant Syndrome is a rare condition in which persons with various developmental disorders, including autistic disorder, have astonishing islands of ability, brilliance or talent in areas such as the fine arts. Many savants are also very good with remembering facts such as phone numbers or birthdays, after only seeing them a few imes. Causes and Prevalence The causes of autism range from different aspects. Some people’s perspective about it comes from history which is where the phrase â€Å"refrigerator mothers† comes from. Refrigerator mothers were women who were emotionally frigid to towards their children, showing their children little to no affection whatsoever. However, in the 1970s, researchers had established that auti sm is caused by brain or biochemical dysfunction that occurs before, during, or after birth. Today, parents are not seen as the cause of their child’s autism, but as partners with educators when helping solve their child’s problems. The biomedical causes show that a child that has a sibling is 10 times more likely to develop autism than a child that does not have any siblings. There also seems to be a connection between environmental factors and genes. Parents also report that they see regression in their child directly following an immunization. But with this being said, parents also see a regression in their unvaccinated children. If a pair of identical twins share the same gene, and one has autism, then 9 out of 10 times, the other twin has autism as well. Researchers believe that the biggest causes of autism are vaccinations, environmental exposures, pesticide exposure, parental age, pharmaceuticals, freeway proximity, and limited prenatal vitamin intake. The prevalence of autism suggests a range from 10 to 60 per 10,000 children. Principles of Effective Instruction and Assessment of Progress There are different kinds of effective instructions in order to help out the child that is diagnosed with Autism. Some of the strategies include keyword, pegword, and letter. Keyword strategies â€Å"teach students to link a keyword to a new word or concept to help them remember the new material† (Turnbull, Turnbull, Wehmeyer, ; Shogren, 2013). This allows the Autistic children understand and learn the material a lot easier. Pegword strategy â€Å"helps students remember numbered or ordered information by linking words and numbers that rhyme† (Turnbull, Turnbull, Wehmeyer, ; Shogren, 2013). This strategy is great for students to visual the objects being represented. The last strategy is the letter strategy â€Å"employs acronyms or a string of letters to help students remember a list of words or concepts. Recalling the acronym helps them recall the list or sequence. † (Turnbull, Turnbull, Wehmeyer, ; Shogren, 2013). â€Å"The Autism Screening Instrument for Educational Planning (ASIEP-2) has five components or subtests that enable educators to evaluate a student’s capacity across communication, social interactions, behavior, academic content, and other domains. (Turnbull, Turnbull, Wehmeyer, ; Shogren, 2013). The behavior checklist is used as a screening tool to identify the need for further assessment to determine whether the student has autism. (Turnbull, Turnbull, Wehmeyer, ; Shogren, 2013). These assessments can be used at home and during school hours. These methods are very effective for an Autism child. The technology and methods continue to grow and change for this disability. This particular disability has become more prominent within the United States each and every year. Researchers are becoming more and more familiar with Autism allowing those that have it able to have more help. The progress of this disability has rapidly increased as well as the technology for Autism. Family Issues Autism does not only affect the child, but autism also affects the parents of the child as well. Parents or guardians of children with ASD must place their child’s needs as their primary focus. When parents with autistic children put their full attention in being a caregiver to these children sometimes this adds stress on their marriage, other children, finances, and personal relationships and responsibilities. Also when having a child with ASD with siblings there may be some lack of attention for the other children in the family. In saying this, it is the parent’s job to best respond to the need of the family as a whole in able to show an equal amount of love to each child. Transition into Adulthood Children with autism are just like children without autism. They grow up wanting to make something of their lives, wanting to attend college, to get married, have a family, ect. Having autism makes dreams and goals harder, but not impossible. Young adults on the autistic spectrum may qualify academically for college, but may not be able to handle other aspects of college life. Also when it comes to employment also depending on the severity of his or her symptoms many organizations hire extra help for adults with autism and other disabilities for pay in order to help them grow as a person and help to work everyday tasks. Just little things like going to college with the help of an assistant or having a small job helps to better them and help to make their transition into adulthood smoother and simpler. Antisemitism Essay Jews have been persecuted since the beginning of documented time. This religious group has been poked, prodded, exiled, and in recentyears, massacred for their religious beliefs. This racial prejudice iscalled anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is the vicious weapon ofpropaganda used to break down the Jews psychologically before thearmies of Germany even began to annihilate this religious group duringWorld War Two (anti-semitism 47). The NAZI Party led in this mass murdering of the Jewish people. Thehead of the NAZI Party, Adolph Hitler, proclaimed that he was not aracist, yet killed over six million defenseless people because of theirrace. Hitler also declared, redundantly, in his speeches, that he did notdesire World War Two. These are some of his last words: It is not truethat I, or anyone else in Germany wanted a war in 1939. It was wantedand provoked exclusively by those international statesmen who eitherwere of Jewish origin, or worked for Jewish interests. This led to themerciless opposition to the universal poisoner of all peoples,International Jewery (Rossel 10). As one can see, anti-Semitism could not be stopped in the era ofWorld War Two, because Hitler outlawed any media that wasnt showinghatred toward the Jews. The only radio broadcasts were his hate filledspeeches and news reports that he approved. The only programs ontelevision also had to be approved by Hitler or someone under him. Nonewspapers were allowed to say anything that, in any way, insulted aNazi, or any other German. If any Jew was caught insulting a German,they were immediately executed or tortured until death. This fear thathad been provoked by the death, starvation, and abuse of theHolocaust, was another type of propaganda brought about by the Nazis(Zeman 26). Another reason that Jews were hated was jealousy. They werebelieved to be Gods chosen people. Hitler took advantage of this, andused it as another opening for propaganda. Soon, the Jews wereblamed for the death of Christ and said to have brought all of the painand suffering on the world. It was said that God was punishing the Jews,and the rest of the world, for not receiving Him, and once the Jews weregone, the Garden of Eden would thrive again. This ridiculous theory waslater declared unchristian by the Second Vatican Council (Roth 47). Anti-Semitism was even in an innocent childrens fairy tale. In SnowWhite , the children were to think of Snow White as Nazi Germany afterWorld War One, the apple that put the beautiful princess to sleep wasthe Jewish people, and the wonderful, handsome prince was AdolphHitler who woke the beautiful princess with a kiss, which represented hisleadership (Zeman 76). Another reason for anti-Semitisms great popularity was that, for a fact,people enjoy hate. They do not necessarily enjoy this emotion as theydo happiness, but it brings about interest in an otherwise emotionlessbeing. The emotion generated by Nazi propaganda and the show of themovement of the Holocaust that was presented to the Germans stoodout against the drabness of everyday life in the Weimar Republic. Thisfeeling was a splash of color on the subdued background of Germany(Zeman 13). As ridiculous a these approaches toward racial hatred may seem, theracism of the Holocaust was not limited to only the Jewish people. What Not to Bring to College Putting together an awesome college packing list can seem simple enough ... until you take a second look and begin to question whether or not you really need all of that stuff. So how can you decide what to bring and what to leave behind? While each students situation is, of course, unique, there are some general dont-bring-em items that definitely shouldnt be brought to college, whether youre a first-year student or a senior or at a large college or a super small one. High School Paraphernalia You know those trophies, class rings, and other items that all symbolize your time in high school? Theyre best left behind. While they may bring back great memories for you, they also make you look like youre still stuck back in high school. Can you bring the lucky football cleats that helped you win the championship? Of course. Should you bring your championship trophy? Better not. High School Clothes Of course, some of the clothes you wore in high school will work just fine in college. But some items, like those that advertise you were on JV Cheer your junior year, are probably best left at home. College campuses practically give t-shirts away through clubs, activities, and special events anyway, so rest assured that you wont be without comfy tees for long. Candles If youre living in the residence halls, these are rarely, if ever, allowed. And if youre living in an off-campus apartment, chances are they arent allowed there, either. Be safe and leave the candles at home so you can avoid any potential conflicts with your RA or your landlord. Large Appliances Try to keep things as compact as possible. So while that popcorn maker your favorite auntie got you may seem pretty cool, its probably best left at home. Larger appliances will take up a ton of room and likely will only be used a few times a year if at all. (Microwaves and mini-fridges, of course, are the exception.) Expensive Equipment and Electronics You may have spent months saving up for some fancy-schmancy stereo system. And as awesome as you think it is, the thief in the building next door likes it even more. Dont tempt fate or your fellow classmates by bringing in equipment or electronics that stand out because of their high cost. Hard-to-Replace Paperwork While you might need things like your birth certificate and your social security card once or twice during your time in school, its better to bring it to campus, show it to whoever needs to see it (the financial aid office, for example), and then send or bring it back home. If items like these disappear, it can be a major pain in the brain to replace them especially if someones stolen them and committed identity theft. Off-Season Clothes While figuring out which clothes to bring to college can be a challenge, one easy rule to go by is to leave off-season clothes behind. If youre heading to school in August, for example, you can probably get your warmest winter jacket in a few months. Theres no need to have clothes you arent going to wear take up already limited space in your room. Duplicates of What Your Roommate Has There are quite a few things you can share with your roommate, so make sure to touch base with him or her before you pack. Two microwaves, for example, will steal a ton of space and be unnecessary. Figure out what each of you wants to bring and then divide and conquer. Drugs and Alcohol This should go without saying, but moving into your residence hall room or apartment with drugs and/or alcohol is a pretty rough way to start out the year. Besides setting yourself up to focus on things other than academics (which is what youre in college for at the end of the day), it can set you off on the wrong foot with an RA or landlord if anyone sees you. Dont sabotage all the work you did to get to college by making a dumb mistake when you first arrive.
